Lewiston Shooting Incident
Location: Lewiston, Maine
In response to the tragic events that unfolded in Lewiston, Maine, the following statement outlines the ongoing investigation into the mass shooting incident:
The city of Lewiston, Maine, witnessed an unprecedented tragedy that resulted in the loss of 18 innocent lives and left 13 others wounded, three of whom remain in grave condition.
This incident marked the 565th mass shooting in the United States, as defined by the Gun Violence Archive.
The primary suspect in this heinous act is Robert Card, a resident of Bowdoin, located approximately 15 miles east of Lewiston.
Card had previously been admitted to a treatment facility due to mental health issues and was subsequently released earlier this summer.
Law enforcement authorities had received reports of Card making threats regarding a shooting at a national guard base in Saco. It is imperative to note that he should not be approached under any circumstances.
The incident occurred at two separate locations, namely Just-in-Time Recreation, a local bowling alley, and Schemengees Bar and Grille Restaurant in Lewiston, which are approximately four miles apart.
At the bowling alley, seven victims, six males and one female, were fatally shot, while the restaurant witnessed eight additional casualties, all males.
Tragically, three more victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical care. The injured individuals included three individuals in critical condition.
Despite an intensive and multistate manhunt involving hundreds of law enforcement personnel combing through forests, waterways, and small towns, Robert Card’s whereabouts remain unknown.
His vehicle was discovered near a boat ramp, and the United States Coast Guard is actively participating in the search. Additionally, a note found at Card’s residence is currently under investigation for potential leads in this case.
The involvement of federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), underscores the gravity of this incident.
Authorities have issued arrest warrants for eight counts of murder and anticipate this number may increase as more victims are identified.
While this ongoing investigation strives to uncover the motives and methods behind this act of violence, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
As the Lewiston community grapples with the immeasurable pain caused by this senseless act, we stand united in our pursuit of justice.
President Joe Biden has ordered flags at federal public buildings to be flown at half-staff until sunset on Monday, honoring the victims of this tragedy.
He has also called for a bipartisan effort to pass gun safety reforms to prevent further such incidents.

The Androscoggin county sheriff’s office has released photographs of the suspect captured on surveillance footage at the bowling alley.
We urge the public to report any sightings or information related to Robert Card to the authorities by calling 911.
This is a dark day for Maine, and our collective resolve remains strong as we seek to bring the perpetrator to justice.
