Firefighters are currently engaged in combatting a swiftly advancing Highlands Fire in Riverside County, driven by Santa Ana winds.

It has already consumed three buildings, inflicted damage on six others, and led to the evacuation of approximately 4,000 local residents.

Known as the Highlands Fire, it originated at Highlands and Aguanga Ranchos roads in Aguanga around 12:30 p.m., initially covering about 30 acres.

By 4:30 p.m., it had expanded to 325 acres, posing a threat to homes.

Later in the evening, Cal Fire officials reported that it had grown to just over 1,200 acres with no containment.

As a result of evacuation orders, around 1,300 homes have been evacuated in several areas.

An evacuation warning was also issued for specific locations.

To accommodate evacuees, a care and reception center has been established at Great Oak High School in Temecula.

For residents evacuating large animals, the San Jacinto Animal Shelter in San Jacinto is available.

Residents under evacuation orders should:

  • Evacuate immediately and follow the instructions of local officials.
  • Take all pets and livestock with you.
  • Turn off your gas and electricity.
  • Lock your doors and windows.
  • Take important documents and medications with you.
  • Let a friend or family member know where you are going.

Residents who are not under evacuation orders should:

  • Monitor the situation and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
  • Close all doors and windows to keep smoke out of your home.
  • Turn on your air conditioner and set it to recirculate.
  • Avoid outdoor activities if possible.

  9. West of Round Top Canyon Road
