Outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna has announced his candidacy for the position of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Miguna, who is a dual citizen of Kenya and Canada, made the announcement on Twitter on Monday, July 10.
“For the avoidance of any doubt, YES, I have applied for the position of The Director of Public Prosecutions,” Miguna wrote. “I have the requisite qualifications, experience, and temperament to be the DPP. I will restore the DPP’s office to its former glory and make it a truly independent and impartial institution.”
The DPP position has been vacant since Noordin Haji was appointed to head the National Intelligence Service (NIS) in June 2023. The DPP is responsible for prosecuting criminal cases in Kenya and is the head of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
For the avoidance of any doubt, YES, I have applied for the position of The Director of Public Prosecutions.
Cheers.
