This article discusses the eligibility criteria and requirements for membership in Kimisitu Sacco.
Established in 1985 by a group of ICRAF staff, Kimisitu Sacco aims to foster savings and provide loans exclusively for provident and productive purposes.
With an asset base of 8.57 billion, it is one of Kenya’s largest deposit-taking Saccos.
Kimisitu Sacco Membership Eligibility

Employees of international organizations, NGOs, embassies, high commissions, and reputable organizations.

Spouses and children of existing members.

Individuals engaged in business.

Registered and unregistered chamas (groups).

Corporates and registered businesses.
Kimisitu Sacco Membership Requirements

Individual Members:
- Complete the online registration form available on the Sacco’s website.
- Provide a copy of the National ID.
- Submit a passport-size photo.
- Pay a membership entrance fee of Kshs 1,000 or 1,022 (via Mpesa).
- Maintain a minimum monthly contribution of Kshs 2,000.
- Contribute an initial minimum share capital of Kshs 5,000.

Corporate Members:
- Fill out the corporate membership application form.
- Present the certificate of incorporation.
- Provide IDs, PIN certificates, and passport-size photos of signatories.
- Include the company profile.
- Pay a membership entrance fee of Kshs 2,000 or 2,022 (via Mpesa).
- Maintain a minimum monthly contribution of Kshs 10,000.
- Contribute an initial minimum share capital of Kshs 10,000.
- Obtain a resolution from the company’s directors to join Kimisitu Sacco.

Chama Members
Chama membership includes the following categories:
(a) Registered Groups
(i) Self-Help Groups/Women Groups/Youth Groups:
- Complete the chama membership application form.
- Provide the certificate of registration.
- Submit copies of IDs and passport-size photos of signatories.
- Pay a membership entrance fee of Kshs 2,000 or 2,022 (via Mpesa).
- Maintain a minimum monthly contribution of Kshs 10,000.
- Contribute an initial minimum share capital of Kshs 10,000.
- Include the group constitution.
- Include a letter of introduction from the Ministry of Social Services.
- Obtain a resolution from the group members to join Kimisitu Sacco.
(ii) Investment Groups Registered as Companies
- Complete the chama membership application form.
- Present the certificate of incorporation.
- Provide copies of IDs and passport-size photos of directors.
- Pay a membership entrance fee of Kshs 2,000 or 2,022 (via Mpesa).
- Maintain a minimum monthly contribution of Kshs 10,000.
- Contribute an initial minimum share capital of Kshs 10,000.
- Submit the company’s and directors’ KRA PIN certificates.
- Include the original memorandum and articles of association.
- Obtain a resolution to join Kimisitu Sacco.
